The Kopenhagen failure
The failing of the Kopenhagen negotiations is part of a larger pattern of failure by Obama to lead in reaching a ‘Green New Deal’. Naomi Klein powerfully summarizes the failures of the US government. This has been one of the main indicators in my thesis for the ‘Globalisation 2.0′ scenario, in which oil as one of the main building blocks of the authoritarian regime is gradually eroded. This should not be a reason for desperation. Public awareness and civil society pressure for a greening of the economy is growing. If the politicians are not willing to lead, the people should step in, firstly by investing in green technology and energy production. Still, the initiative for a ’green infrastructure’ largely depends on governments and businesses. Therefore, keeping up the pressure on them remains vital. For developed thinking on the intellectual foundation of sustainable growth, see this interesting article by Otto Scharmer, senior lecturer at MIT.
